One of the most important aspects of Imperial Kingdoms is your economy and your military, for both you need buildings.

Basic Infrastructure Buildings

When you start a new round you start with two buildings ready to build, Hydro Farm and Bio Dome. These basic buildings each give +1 to their resource (Food and Workers, respectively). There is also another basic building that you will have to research, Gas Plant that gives +1 Energy.

All three of the basic buildings can be updated to Mk IV (Mark 4). The income they give will increase with each mark, but also the cost and build time will increase. It is always a smart move to get Mk IV buildings as soon as possible.

There is also another important resource: minerals. Minerals are seperated into different types (Fe, O, S, etc) that are are used to build other buildings (all Mk III infrastructure buildings need minerals to be built as well as the Derrick Mk II). The building you need to get minerals are Derrick, and this is also the only building that can be upgraded to Mk V where it gives +1000 minerals per Tick.

Advanced

The next step in buildings are buildings that speeds building and researching, the most important building here is the Large Industrial Crane (LIC). Each LIC gives you the ability to make more buildings (if you have 1 LIC you will be able to build 2 buildings at the same time, 2 LICs = 3 buildings at the same time etc), up to a maximum of 14 LICs (15 buildings at the same time). Then we have 2 other buildings that are very important, the Ministry of Planning and Building and Regional Planning and Building Office. Both this buildings let you "Queue" buildings after each other (say if you have the Ministry you will where you build buildings see 1x2, that will means instead of starting only one building you will start 2, but the building time will also be double, if you have both it will be 1x3 with the building time being 3 times what it is with 1 building at the time). So if you have 14 LICs and both the planning buildings you will be able to start 15x3 buildings at the same time.

2 other buildings that comes under economy are the Hydraulic Crane (HC) and the Zero-G research laboratory (Zero-G). The HC will take the building time on other buildings down with 1% for each building, where the max number of buildings being 75. The Zero-G takes the research time for the planet it's built on down with 1% for each Zero-G, max number of Zero-G's are 85.

A well built planet is often referred to as having 14/75/85: 14 LICs, 75 HC, and 85 Zero-G's.

Military Buildings

Then we have come to the part that most people probably have been looking forward to, where we start talking about military. Most people understand that you're not able to build military units without a place to build them, and the military buildings give you a place to build them. There are a lot of different military buildings, ranging from Military Academy (produces Infantry) to Heavy Tank Factory (Produces Heavy Tanks). There is also different buildings to build space units, from Fighter Shipyard (Makes fighters) to Battleship Foundry (Makes battleships). New players should notice that the time it takes to build a units decrease for each military building for that unit you build, so your Infantries would be made much faster if you had 2 Military Academies than if you had 1. Many top kingdoms go for having at least over 100 Military Buildings of one type before they really start producing military...
