Registering

The first thing you will want to do is most importantly register. After following the simple steps in registration, you are ready to begin.

Joining

There are 2 ways to play Imperial Kingdoms: independantly or on a team. When you are setting up your player you are given the choice to play independantly, to join a team, or to create a team.* If creating a team, planet codes for your friends will be in your Mail Box

Note: You can abandon your player at any time during a round to rejoin as a independant, start a team, or join a team. Your abandoned player and planets will remain in the round, just not under your control. This means that your old kingdom and player names will be unusable again.

Teams

Creating a team couldn't be easier.

You've got a few friends and you've told them about the game, you can create a team, and give them your planet codes, allowing them to join your empire. You can help manage and govern their planets if theyre stuck, or go on vacation. Theres even a Kingdom forum that you can chat with your teammates, discuss tactics or possible victims. A single player may be given more than one planet (ie you do not have to have 4 team mates to start a team) however, the current limit of planets is 5, regardless of how many team mates you have.

Day One

So, you've seen that in a few days time there is going to be a new round, you've gathered up 4 of your friends and decide to try and conquer the universe! Try and join as early as possible, giving you a slight advantage over late-joiners. Although, if you do join late you will be awarded with Warp Time.

You will want to start off by researching Gas Plants

All of these are very important as without these buildings you won't be able to advance. When you have say 5 of these, you want to head for the MKII of them buildings, these give a bigger income to the previous model, however, they also have an upkeep cost. Just make sure to build enough of each kind to keep your total gain in the positive. Although, even while these are building, you should be researching the Mark 2's. Gas Plants and Biodomes are the most important, as you need between 2-3 times as much resources from these as the Hydro Farms. You should also now be able to build the Derrick, giving you a +10 in minerals. Always be sure to build on all of your planets. Building on one planet does not limit or detract from the resources of another.

General Hints

First of all, the beauty of this game is the diversity of tactics. You don't have to follow one path to succeed, and that's a breath of fresh air when it comes to these text based games. Here's some information that can be helpful for you however: early game score is almost entirely off of minerals, so the more derricks you build, the higher your score. The higher your score, the less people that can declare on you. If you are in the middle ranks then more people are likely to declare on you. When I was top ten, at one time I only had one person within the attack cap % that could declare on me. and the bigger you are, the less likely you want to declare on someone of your own size. I know how many units I have, and chances are you have about the same. Another tidbit that is key is that war declarations, once made, don't expire. So if you declare war on someone at the beginning of the game, and in the middle they have a greater score than you, you can still attack them, even if they are well beyond the attack % cap. And I must say, having a solid foundation (15 LIC, 75 Hydraulic cranes and 85 0g labs) makes things LOADS easier. Never stop building as long as you have the resources to do so. You will be thankful when you have your military buildings up and running. Ask questions and make friends, this game is as much about diplomacy as it is about warfare. The room for IRC is #ImperialKingdoms at GamesUrge, however, the best bet for questions is to post on the forums, which can be found by clicking the link on the main page of IK, or by clicking the ying/yang symbol inside the game.
